Two days expert meeting on telecom information systems for EMEA – Europe, Middle East and Africa, organized by GDi GISDATA / GDi Systems together with ESRI and Telcordia took place in Zagreb May 27 and 28. Almost 40 experts from 15 countries on 3 continents participated in this event.

GDI GISDATA / GDi Systems, one of the leading specialized technology companies in the region; for technical telecom information systems as well as the biggest geoinformation applications company in Central and South Eastern Europe, organized a two days professional conference on telecom information systems, held at the Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia. This professional conference that GDi organized together with ESRI and Telcordia Technologies gathered almost 40 experts from 15 countries on 3 continents.

Besides GDi GISDATA and GDi Systems regional experts from four countries, as well as partner companies Telcordia Technologies and ESRI, this conference gathered together around 40 lecturers and telecom experts from Europe, America and Middle East. Among the participants were guests from USA, Germany, UK, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Lithuania, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia and Slovenia.

During the conference, GDi presented its latest generation of software solutions and application packages for VAS – value added services for mobile operators. GDi new generation of location based services (LBS) systems, grouped in GDi CANVAS and GDi ENSAMBLE product ranges provides a powerful innovative platform for mobile operators to offer a wide spectrum of attractive services to either residential or business users. GDi key user, a mobile operator VIPNET Croatia, a Vodafone affiliate in the Mobilkom Austria group, presented to the conference participants its implementation of the particular GDi LBS VAS system for managing mobile resources in the m2m (machine-to-machine) application space for business customers – a well known and very successful VIPNET service „VIP Car Surveillance”.

GDi also presented its OSS – operations support systems solution used for managing the internal technical operations of the telecom operators. Specifically presented were OSS solutions for fixed operators T-Com Croatia and Telecom Slovenia. Just a week earlier those solutions were presented at the large global telecom OSS conference “TMF Tele Management World 2010” in Nice, France.

Participants of this conference also visited T-Com northern Adriatic regional center in the port city of Rijeka, on wonderful Croatian Adriatic coast, where they learned about one of GDi solutions that has been implemented within the T-Com Croatia overall OSS / NGOSS and is in non-stop function already for multiple years.

GDi used the occasion of EMEA telecom expert meeting participants visiting Rijeka to present to them also a location of the traditional GDi regional users conference – a wonderful “conferences, health and tourism” small town of Opatija, the pearl of Adriatic, with tourism tradition since 1870s, and to invite them to come and present their projects this year, as the GDi 2010 users conference shall be held in Opatija on September 21, 22 and 23.

Mr. Boran Lončarić, CEO of GDi Group pointed out that it has been a great honor to GDi on one side, as well as great responsibility on the other, that so many expert participants from the whole EMEA region and USA, chose Croatia, namely Zagreb, Rijeka and Opatija, as a location, over, for example Berlin, where this meeting will take place next year in 2011.

“It was a great honor, not only for our GDi employees based in Croatia, but also for all of our GDi approximately 200 employees located in 10 regional offices in 9 countries in Europe to host such an event. According to the positive feedback from the meeting participants, we were not only just really good hosts but have actually impressed many of them with our GDi surprisingly innovative and industry leading-edge application solutions. Some of the conference participants noted that the level of technological advancement of the GDi solutions, and their innovativeness, shows that technology solutions coming from so-called “small countries” sometimes not only just rival, but occasionally also outperform the innovation and development level of the bigger telecom markets, leading to exports of technological solutions from those smaller markets to bigger ones “.

In regards to the presentations of GDi CANVAS and GDi ENSAMBE system for providing mobile services with added value, Mr. Lončarić pointed out that presentations and particular implementation approach, on the VIPNET example, induced the interest for presenting software products and experts services for the Italian, Saudi Arabian, Jordan and Polish markets. Presenting solution for fixed operators was especially interesting to the people responsible for one Belgium project, while long-term partners suggested to jointly pursue few projects in USA, as well as in Central and South America.

GDi partners presented selected telecom industry solutions from the geo-info and telecommunication fields.

ESRI experts presented the new generation of the complete enterprise GIS software platform ArcGIS 10.0, as well as ability to use it in the “cloud” environment on top of some new types of infrastructure platforms – such as on AWS (Amazon Web Services). Telcordia Technologies lecturers showed the overview of the possibilities of various applications for telecom operators in the category of system for the basic operations support (Operations Support Systems).

USA projects presented included applications allowing the public insight into level of penetration and availability of broadband telecom services “Broadband Mapping” already used in 12 US states Middle East region projects were presented by the GDi partner company UtilNet that spoke of the implementation project for the technical documentation systems of the both inside as well the outside plant of the optical network of STC – Saudi Telecom Corporations. HNIT Baltic experts presented the projects of measuring and presenting the KPI – key performance indicator parameters of the mobile operator Zain in Sudan.

European lecturers presented several projects for the leading operators (Vodafone Germany, fixed operators Arcor and Versatel in Germany, fixed operators TEO and VDNET in Lithuania and mobile operator CenterTel in Poland. A leading GIS-based tool for design and analysis of the wireless 3G and 4G networks – the “Cellular Expert” latest release, had also been presented, as well as its use at CTiTi – the Telecom Regulatory Agency of Catalonia.

GDi presented several of its own solutions: technical information systems for the telecom operators, already successfully implemented by several clients, such as Telekom Slovenije in Slovenia, T-Com and VIPNET in Croatia, VIPNET in Macedonia and Serbia, Vodafone in Hungary, BH Telekom and Telekom Srpske and HT Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Telekom Srbije, MTS (Mobilna Telefonija Srbije) and Telenor in Serbia, OiV – Broadcasting transmitters and links in Croatia , Antenna Hungaria in Hungary as well as for telecom regulators in Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary and Serbia.

This yeas international experts working meeting for telecom technical informational systems organized by GDi started on Thursday, May 27 in Zagreb and was closed on Friday, May 28, late afternoon, after visiting Rijeka and Opatija.

The similar 2011 EMEA working meeting of telecom industry experts of ESRI, Telcordia and GDi shall take place in Berlin, Germany.

GISDATA GROUP presented its telecom industry solutions at The Mobile World Congress 2008, which was held February 11-14 in Barcelona. The Mobile World Congress is the biggest world congress for mobile communications, which presents the world novelties in telecom technologies. Over 55,000 people from all over the world visited the trade fair in Barcelona, together with 230 executing directors and other prominent speakers from the world telecom scene, and over 8,000 delegates.

This is the fifth year for GISDATA GROUP exhibiting at GSMA Mobile World Congress. At GISDATA/ESRI/HNIT-Baltic booth D58 in Hall 2.1 GISDATA telecom consultants presented its GIS-based informatics solutions designed for telecom industry to many visitors from all over the world and long-term users and partners.

GISDATA telecom solutions include software, professional services and information content for both revenue generating innovative value added services, as well as for business operations and network development and operations. These include LBS, OSS, QoS, network inventory, facility management, fleet management, planning and optimization, location sensitive billing, and marketing, sales and CRM systems. At the Congress, GISDATA experts demonstrated the useful advantages of its services for telecom operator, amongst which we single out:

Location Based Services Engine LBSE 9.2 including OpenLS middleware and revenue generating services (People, Fleet Management, Gaming and other)

GSMA Barcelona offered all visitors an insight into the worldwide mobile telecommunications technologies and trends, industry news and an overview of the latest mobile communications products. We single out the most important upcoming technology and the main topic of the Congress: the LTE (4G of radio technology), for which ETSI already started the process of standardization and whose commercial use is expected in 2010. LTE will allow speed up to 50-100 Mbps, and which will convert all existing mobile communications technologies: GSM, TDMA, CDMA, W-CDMA, WiMAX. The key hardware products presented include the popular femtocell – home UMTS base cell connected through ADSL on the core part of the mobile network, which presents the convergence of the fixed and mobile network (the user switches from fixed to mobile network/tariff depending on his location – home/office and his mobility.)

On the software side, the most presented products were from the mobile phone technology (Nokia, Google, Microsoft and many more smaller distributors presented the advantages of the mobile phone industry). The most popular software was Google’s operating system Android which will without a doubt taper the fight for the most dominant OS on the market.
The main political/social/economic topics of the Congress were protection against child pornography and standardization/lowering of roaming prices for SMS and GPRS data in the EU.

The Congress, held in the beautiful Catalan metropolis did not lack famous people from the world of telecommunication and the movie industry: Arun Sarin, CEO of Vodafone, the famous actor and director Robert Redford, Wang Jianzhou, CEO China Mobile, John Chambers, CEO Cisco, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, CEO Nokia, the lead singer of the Black-Eyed-Peas, and female actor and director Isabella Rossellini were part of the interesting speakers at the Congress.

GISDATA GROUP (www.gisdata.com), for years already the largest supplier of geoinformation technology and applied geoinformation technology solutions in Central and Southeastern Europe, and already amongst largest such companies in Europe, Middle East and Africa region, with operating local company subsidiaries in six countries and additional representative offices, announces:

GISDATA Users Conference 2007 (GDUC 2007) gathered international community of GISDATA users on September 19 and 20, 2007 in a highly successful and effective conference, held in a pleasant conference center in Opatija on the wonderful Mediterranean coast.
A higher-than-expected number of almost 300 attendees from 10 countries listened to 7 international keynote presentations in joint plenary session, presented about 40 of their own projects and application papers in 4 parallel focused thematic sessions on telecom, e-business, e-government, and natural resources and environmental solutions. Posters and maps session drew 23 posters – higher then expected. Participants also gathered around multiple thematic demo islands, and socialized and networked in the breaks and during the party, supporting knowledge exchange. All this resulted in the announcement of GISDATA Users Conferences also for 2008 and 2009, to be held at the same location, but in the May time frame.

GDUC was opened with a welcome address held by the Mayor of Opatija, Mr. Amir Muzur, Phd. and the representative of the Primorsko-Goranska County, Mr. Ingo Kamenar. Both of them directed very warm words towards GISDATA, their work and members. Given the fact that these two respectable figures are direct users of GISDATA’s solutions, implemented by their administrations, their compliments were especially flattering to all GISDATA members and very encouraging for all GISDATA users.

Attendees and invited guests included the specialists and professionals not just from this region of Europe, but from different parts of the world, who were handing over their knowledge and experiences in a wide field of geoinformatics and related applied technologies. The keynote speakers included respectable academics and top managers from international geoinformatics and telecom information systems, such as Mr. Ian Best from UK office of TeleManagement Forum, Prof. Bela Markus the Dean of College Of Geoinformatics, University of Western Hungary and also the Chairman of International Federation of Land Surveyors commission on education, and Prof. Branko Cavrić, from the University of Botswana, in southern Africa. The impressive keynote presentation was delivered by Prof. Dr. Željko Bačić, the Director General of the Croatian State Geodetic Administration, presenting on “GeoPortal – A Cornerstone Of The Spatial Data Infrastructure”. Prof. Dr. Bačić is also the President of EUROGEOGRAPHICS the association of 49 National Mapping and Cadastral Agencies, from 42 countries across Europe.

Prof. Bačić addresses the GISDATA management with a particularly positive feedback:

„I feel a need to congratulate you on the organization of GDUC User Conference in Opatija last week and on the effect which such event brings not only to your company but also to the entire geoinformatic community in Croatia as well as to the promotion of Croatia and her capacities on the regional basis.
It was a pleasure to have an opportunity to attend the meeting and present the country’s efforts in implementation of NSDI the creation of such a service as GeoPortal. The overall level of the meeting has undoubtfully impressed all attendees. I can unconstrainedly say that GISDATA can be proud of the held conference!”

The conference turned out into real success, which was demonstrated by almost 300 attendees who had a chance to hear or present the latest topics in applications of GIS and related information technologies and participate in industry-related seminars. GISDATA presented award for the best posters and some other awards for attendees during a pleasant party.

A one-day post-conference technology seminar on ESRI ArcGIS 9.2 was also held by GISDATA training centre.

Held in the wonderful and pleasant conference center right on the Mediterranean, GDUC was an ideal opportunity for all attendants to share their knowledge and network in a relaxing atmosphere during the free time between and after the presentations and seminars.

GDUC 2007 achieved a very positive feedback from its participants, who also showed a great interest in repeating this event in the future.

“I really enjoyed the conference. Hoping to participate in 2008!”

was how Prof. Bela Markus expressed his impressions about this year’s GDUC. Many ideas for next years’ sessions, poster topics and special interest group meetings and discussion forums emerged already during GDUC 2007. For that reason, GDUC 2008 and 2009 have been already planned and announced, to be held at the same location in Opatija. The late spring time frame in May has been scheduled for already the next two years. GISDATA team will ensure that 2008 attendees will enjoy a positive experience again, hear the latest presentations from the industry and participate in pleasant networking and socializing.

We are looking forward to seeing GISDATA users and partners again in Opatija on the Mediterranean again in 2008, May 7-9, at the GISDATA Users Conference 2008 – a highly useful and pleasant event not to be missed.

GDi and Telcordia sign two large contracts with Telekom Slovenia for licensing and implementation of telecom network management software

GISDATA (www.gisdata.com), the largest regional company in Central and South-Eastern Europe for geoinformation systems applications and related specialized telecommunications software and services, announced today that during the summer of 2006 together with its partner Telcordia Technologies, Inc. (global supplier of the telecommunication software which was created in famous Bell Laboratories / Bellcore, located in Piscataway, New Jersey, USA ) it was selected and signed two complex contracts with Telecom Slovenia.

Contracts singed include licensing and implementation of several Telcordia telecom OSS (operations support systems) software products such as Telcordia® Network Engineer, Telcordia® Granite Inventory, and Telcordia® Customer Number Manager (CNUM), with the aim to support the modernization and improvement of telecommunication infrastructure, services and operational procedures within Telekom Slovenia.

After the implementation is completed Telekom Slovenia will be able to optimize its network planning, design, construction, documentation and maintenance processes. Also, software shall automate and therefore increase efficiency of provisioning processes for new telecom services, and processes of modifying existing services, which is very important for the more complex modern telecom services such as ADSL or IPTV.

Incumbent telecom operators that want to keep up with the increasing competition in the liberalised markets must consider implementing modern complex integrated OSS (operations support systems) solutions such as this, if they want to maintain the economics of their internal business and technical operations.

Beside at incumbent and new competitive telecom operators Network Engineer and Granite Inventory software can also be used by local governments or national telecom regulatory agencies for documenting controlling, managing and charging for the use of the common underground duct and conduit infrastructure by various telecom operators competing with each other, insuring fair competition and the level playing field for all operators.

Implementation and use of Network Engineer, Granite Inventory and CNUM in the day to day business processes of Telekom Slovenia, as covered by those two contracts signed, already started this summer, as the joint project undertaken by the experts from GISDATA and Telcordia.

With these two large contracts GISDATA together with partner Telcordia once more confirmed that not only is GISDATA the larges geoinformation systems company in the Central and Eastern / Southeaster Europe region but also that it is uniquely positioned as the IT services, software and solutions provided to the telecom operators internationally.

During 2005 GISDATA in global competition, especially in telecommunication industry, increased its exports for 50% over 2004.

Since 2005, more than 50% of GISDATA business revenues is achieved abroad.
Boran Loncaric, Chairman and CEO of GISDATA group, at this occasion stated:

„GISDATA telecom industry sector spectrum of solutions has been significantly broadened and deepened by our partnership with Telcordia for OSS – operations support systems software. Also, our team of telecom industry experts has been significantly strengthened as well as increased in size. That increased spectrum, depth and strength of our telecom sector solutions resulted in new significant business commitments from our key customers – telecom operators. I expect that the GISDATA telecom solutions business will continue to expand, both in terms of the types and level of complexity, as well as in terms of the number of telecom operators and geographical markets we serve.
Our selection by and contracts signed with Telekom Slovenia represent at the same time both an acknowledgment and confirmation of GISDATA competence in the international telecom industry market, and also responsibility for the proper execution of the implementation projects”.

Mr. Mike Henderson, President of Global Solutions at Telcordia, who signed the contract in Ljubljana during summer 2006, said:

“The new communications landscape requires faster and more integrated business processes to support a flexible set of new service offerings. Telcordia is pleased to work with GISDATA and Telekom Slovenia to support their satisfying the government requirements and also address such business drivers as shortening time to market for new services, improving efficiency and service assurance, and creating new possibilities for managing services”.

Mr Zeljko Puljic, CTO, Telekom Slovenia, said:

“With OSS solution based on Telcordia product suite Telekom Slovenia will get enhanced capabilities for streamlining provisioning of new services and also strong support for network planning. The OSS transformation program we just started will in near future turn Telekom Slovenia into a next generation operator with excellent operational efficiency and high quality innovative services.”
